Uganda: Long-time President Yoweri Museveni has been declared election winner. The result gives President Museveni a sixth term in office,having been in office since 1986 when he conquered Idi Amin's ("Butcher of Uganda") dictatorship continued by Amin's loyalists. Many say Museveni represents stability in the country. Before elections, tanks were driven through the famous opposition stronghold downtown. The government shut down the internet ahead of the voting day in response to Facebook's shutdown of a network of accounts linked to Uganda's ministry of information. - Mercy Partners has been operating in country since 2010 to empower churches.
